Founded in the Fall of 2011, Kaminari Wan Taiko is a unique musical experience and Thunder Bay's only Japanese Taiko drum group. We are part of the Lakehead Japanese Cultural Association (LJCA).
The vision of our Japanese benefactor was to enrich the offerings of the LJCA. The drums were shipped to Thunder Bay accompanied by Tenku Taiko, a well known Japanese taiko group, who instructed our initial workshop, thereby starting us on a wonderful journey of learning and performing traditional Japanese Taiko drumming.
We have performed several times providing entertainment for festivals, celebrations, banquets, and other cultural events. We also went to Japan in 2014 for three performances to help celebrate Tenku Taiko's 15th Anniversary.
Our energetic, visually exciting and dynamically choreographed performances are met with very enthusiastic applause from our audiences who are thrilled and even amazed to see taiko drumming in our city. You can feel the thunder!
