Dance and Music
Jiali Wen is a full-time technician at Lakehead University. She has actively volunteered in the local community for 15 years out of her busy schedule. She established the Lakehead Chinese Dance Group in 2003 and the Children'’s Chinese Dance Group in 2006. Both groups performed in numerous cultural and fundraising events voluntarily. Jiali has choreographed and directed 31 different dances during the past 15 years, organized and participated in over 90 performances at various events such as the Chinese New Year Banquet, Folklore Festival, Canada Day Celebration, and multiple senior’'s retirement homes. She has won the "Good Citizen" award in 2017.

Jiali has also served the Thunder Bay Chinese Canadian Association as a volunteer board member since 2011.

In addition, Jiali has assisted a number of international students and visiting scholars in adapting to the new country by acting as an interpreter or a mentor.

Jiali and her Chinese Dance Groups volunteered their time to promote multiculturalism in Thunder Bay and continue to make Thunder Bay a home for people from different cultural backgrounds.


As a leader and choreographer, Jiali Wen has been voluntarily choreographing and teaching the Lakehead Chinese Dance Group two to three hours per week over the last 14 years. She has organized and participated in over 80 performances at various events such as the TBCCA Chinese New Year Banquet, Folklore Festival, the Canada Day Celebration, and multiple senior’s retirement homes.

Jiali also voluntarily taught children Chinese dances 3 hours a week for over a few years. The Children’'s Chinese Dance Group won a gold medal at the 2013 Lakehead Arts and Music Folklore Festival.

Jiali also helped many international students and visiting scholars adapt to the new country by acting as an interpreter or a mentor.
